Como: the one the only

Having successfully made it from Geneva to Milan, and then to the city of Como, Nina and I caught the C10 bus and sat back to enjoy the long ride around the lake to Menaggio.
Passing through the streets of Como I smiled to myself, silently appreciating the vibrancy of Italy. This is a culture that celebrates the sun. The porous stone walls of the buildings that surrounded me are saturated in burnt oranges, lemon yellows, rosy pinks, and my personal favourite: several shades of peach. This might all be too much, a sensory overload, if not for the deeper, cooler colours painted onto the window shutters and frames that punctuate each wall. Sage green, taupes and silvers, or mahogany browns, these are the colours of shade and sleep. Already I feel so much more relaxed.
