Geneva; 10:37 - The Hotel Drake a.k.a. 100 Swiss Francs Later

William: "You dont have a place booked in Geneva...the most expensive city in the world?"
- chortle, chortle
Me: "ummm...."
William: "Jessica, this is going to be one of those life lessons you may have heard about."

Today began the adventures of Nina and Jess, two North America babes (in the woods) out to conquer Switzerland. Nina and I successfully met up at Gatwick airport, and refreshed ourselves with some much needed espresso and diet coke. Our Jetsgo flight was mostly uneventful, if a little bumpy. Nina succumbed to a few moments of motion sickness (without ruining any upholstery thank you very much) and missed the picture perfect view of rolling green mountains, sparkling waters dotted with sailboats, and lush farmlands out the window as we landed. I assured her that it was beautiful and she took my word for it. This was truly a shame as by the time we found accommodations it was dark and all we could see was a promising dark outline of mountains, boats, and farmland.

After finding all the hostels booked (info I had already ascertained from William) we were directed to the Drake: home of the English business man. Every other guest I saw there was a Michael Caine look-a-like, puffing furiously on cigarette after cigarette, talking about "the convention". Our room was basic hotel fare with one addition: a couch-day bed? whose frame ends abruptly before its stuffing, eagerly throwing all edge straddlers onto the floor.

Our plan is to get up early (this actually didn't happen) and see some of the city before our train. Though Geneva has shown us some tough love, we cannot complain about its residents all of whom have been nothing but helpful and pleasant. Merci Beaucoup!
